Zodiac signs on months

Not only the place, but also time of emergence of system zodiac signs on months for certain isn't established. Also, there is no consensus of that actually display zodiac signs on months, i.e. they correspond as 12 lunar months with solar year, or are display of 12 solar years according to a cycle time of Jupiter. It is quite possible that zodiac signs on months became a source of an astrological principle "day as a progression of year".
